If Calamity/Disaster Strike. Are You Prepared?

Have you ever thought about what you would do if disaster or calamity ever struck ?  Well, have you? We all have so much we think of, and make time to do many things on a day-to-day basis. But what about this? Look, I’ll be the first to admit that this subject is not on top of my to do list, but still, we must ask ourselves this question. In the day and hour we now live in, I think it’s imperative to at least be in the “know” of what to do to protect ourselves and family if disaster came knocking at our door. It’s your own responsibility to be prepared. No one’s going do that for you. We owe it to ourselves and loved ones to be prepared for any potential uncertainty. Here are just a few key examples below to keep in mind if something was to ever happen, God forbid.

  • Have a tailored plan for you and your family. Establish a plan. Who will be responsible for carrying out certain tasks in your family? Where will you meet? What method of transportation will you be using or available to you? Does everyone have a cell phone charger? ( I’m talking about the ones you charge in your vehicle ).
  •  Keep handy all important documents ( I.D., passports, insurance documents, etc. ).
  • Keep a bag ready just in case of an evacuation. Build a kit.
  • Keep in mind everyone’s different ages.
  • Responsibilities of assisting others
  • Food/Water Supply. Start researching food insurance programs such as www.foodinsurance.com, or www.wisefoodsupply.com , etc. In instance of a calamity, water supply tends to run out first. Get info. on how to safely store and clean water, for example, using water cleaning tablets or knowing how much chlorine to use per gallon of water.
  • Medical needs ( prescriptions and/or equipment)
  • Languages
  • Pets/Service Animals

Hopefully and prayerfully, we won’t ever have to put a plan into action, but as I stated before, it is our own responsibility to be aware of what to do to protect our family if there’s any event that would lead us to do so. Some of this may even sound a little far fetched , but in this present day and age we live in, we need to be aware. Anything could happen. No one wants to be found in a situation when you could have made preparation for but just didn’t make time for or put any importance on. We make time for so many things. Let’s at least make time for something that truly matters. You and your family’s life. This isn’t something to be paranoid over, spend every waking moment about a catastrophe and becoming fearful of the worst. Live and enjoy life. This is just something to think about and put on your to do list to make a plan. Protecting yourself, family & neighbors in the case of a potential minor or major disaster.
